Ballet means something different to everyone – this is what it means to me:
“As a child, enjoying the wonders of the world of ballet – the intense specialness of the class environment; the respect for teacher and fellow student; and the joy of forever learning new and wonderful steps, and meeting new and wonderful people…
As a teenager, discovering a world-within-a-world of vitality and grace, of escapism, and of friendships that outlast all others; learning that effort is always rewarded; and gaining an opportunity to be someone different from the norm…
As a young adult, realising the beauty of learning and the beauty of teaching; understanding that the more we learn, the more we need to learn; and recognising the complexity of each and every one of us…
As an experienced teacher, refining and reassessing how I teach, through the raising of my own children … and always still learning…
…and now as Director, seeing beautiful qualities come to the surface of all students; being involved in harmony, energy and accomplishment every day; and seeing happy, assured, enriched and satisfied
children. To be a part of a whole that we call ballet…
