Overview and Purpose
The purpose of our Performance Group is to offer a challenging and enjoyable extension to the technical foundations we provide in our regular classes. Our participation in competitions, festivals and at community events, serves to enhance the artistic and performance skills of our students and to encourage friendship, camaraderie, and a sense of teamwork.
We will always perform a selection of classical ballet and demi character pieces, as these techniques are the foundation of our curriculum. Lyrical, contemporary and jazz pieces will be added to the repertoire as a means of broadening the skill base of our dancers.
Our performance pieces will always be age-appropriate in content and costuming, and in the steps and movements we perform. We will create pieces with a sense of artistic integrity that serve to extend the skills of our dancers and provide them with knowledge of past and current choreographers, composers, and significant performers.
Eligibility
Our Performance Groups are open to all dancers in Grade 2 and above. It is expected that all Performance Group dancers will participate in examinations and assessments in ballet, tap and modern as they are offered to them.
Junior Performance Group dancers are required to take at least two weekly ballet lessons at their level, as well as the applicable modern and performance conditioning classes.
Senior Performance Group dancers are required to take at least two weekly ballet lessons at their level, one class at the level above, and the applicable modern and performance conditioning classes.
Tap and jazz classes are recommended as auxiliary techniques that will extend a dancer’s repertoire and overall ability.
