***** Although CBCC welcomes students who wish to take ballet class once per week from Grade 1 level, please note that students need to take class twice per week to fully grasp the concept of, and achieve at, classical ballet. Taking class once per week is not enough time to secure basic fundamentals and posture which IS ballet. I'd suggest taking ballet twice per week over one ballet class AND one other style IF you would like your child to progress soundly in dance. Ballet is the baseline for all dance styles and children normally pick up tap/modern at a later stage without difficulty. They cannot do this with ballet.
Grade 5Students Grade 4 2015 will be learning ISTD Grade 4 examination syllabus in 2016.
It is highly recommended that students take one lesson of Intermediate Foundation a week in 2016. Students will not be considered for pointe work until they have attended at least 3 ballet lessons a week for 12 months. Some students will take much longer to be physically, mentally and age ready to dance on pointe.
Grade 6, 7, 8Students who were Grade 5 2015 move on to Intermediate Foundation.
Higher grade level suitability is shown on the timetable. Higher grade classes do not constitute as a class when adding up the hours required to achieve a vocational exam as these are performance exams.
Intermediate FoundationFor students who were Grade 5 in 2015. Students at this level must attend 2x Inter Foundation classes and 1x Intermediate class per week to be considered ready for pointe work. Modern class is highly recommended. Students should be at least 12 years of age and be physically and mentally ready to dance on pointe. Younger students and/or those that lack core strength may take longer to do the exam than others in their cohort. As this exam level requires pointe work, students may not have the capacity and/or facility in order to do the examination, they may however continue progressing with their cohort.
IntermediateFor students Inter Found 2015. To be considered for an exam students must attend 2x Intermediate classes per week and 1x Advanced Foundation class. Modern class is highly recommended. It is now compulsory to also attend the free class on Friday afternoons. The RAD recommends 7 hours of ballet per week to achieve this level. This does not include higher grades (6-8), rehearsal or performance work. Please see table below. Grade 6 will be offered in 2016.
Advanced FoundationFor students Intermediate 2015. Students must attend all Advanced Foundation classes, 1x Advanced 1 class, 1x free class and be learning modern. The RAD recommends a minimum of 7 hours of ballet per week to achieve this level. This does not include higher grades (6-8), rehearsal or performance work. Please see table below.
Advanced 1For students Advanced Foundation 2015. Students must attend all Advanced 1 classes, 1 x Advanced 2 and be learning modern. The RAD recommends a minimum of 8.5 hours of ballet per week to achieve this level. This does not include rehearsal or performance work, nor other styles of dance. Please see table below.
Advanced 2/Post Advanced 2As per Advanced 1. The RAD recommends a minimum of 9.5 hours of ballet per week at Advanced 2 level. This does not include rehearsal and performance work nor other styles of dance. Please see table below.
Tap levelsAs per ballet above. All students will move up to the next graded level however the ISTD work may remain the same until the work is accomplished. Most classes will have moved to the next level by April 2016.
